FAQs
Is IASIS Micro Current Neurofeedback Dangerous?
How is IASIS Micro Current Neurofeedback Different than Traditional Neurofeedback?
Traditional Neurofeedback is usually associated with mindfulness training.
Information from your brainwaves is transmitted to a computer screen. Clients attempt to train their brainwaves by mentally manipulating events on the screen. No signal is transmitted back to the brain. This kind of neurofeedback typically requires 40+ sessions, with a typical session lasting 45 minutes to an hour.
With IASIS Micro Current Neurofeedback clients don’t do anything other than sit still for a few moments. A brief, tiny signal transmitted back to the brain does all the work. MCN clients may notice changes either immediately or within the first few sessions. Fast action, limited number of sessions, and the ease and simplicity of treatment all are features of IASIS Micro Current Neurofeedback.

How Many Micro Current Neurofeedback Sessions are Needed?
Some clients notice helpful changes during the initial session. Early changes may be temporary, and due to the cumulative nature of Micro Current Neurofeedback (MCN), are observed to last longer with each training. By the end of a series of sessions improvements may be substantial. While some patients require “tune-ups,” for the most part the benefits endure. This is the result of the brain regaining healthier neuro-chemical balance, and developing more neuro-plasticity and a natural resistance to returning to a dysfunctional state. The number of sessions depends on the individual, their condition and the acuity of that condition.
12-20 sessions is typical for many conditions to improve or possibly be eliminated.
That said, 85% of our clients notice a positive change within the first 3 sessions. Clients often feels a mood or condition shift occur during the initial session. Initial changes are temporary, but last longer with each treatment.
What Can I Expect at My IASIS Micro Current Neurofeedback Treatments?
You will come in and sit in a quiet room. Once comfortable, we will prep the areas of your head and neck where the EEG electrodes will be placed. Then we will ask you a series of questions to assess any changes in your symptoms between sessions. This feedback is helpful to us and allows us to properly evaluate and make any necessary protocol adjustments before we begin.
Unlike traditional neurofeedback, IASIS MCN does not require you to actively participate. You can come to your session, close your eyes, listen to music and relax. The EEG electrodes will be moved around during your session. This is a painless process and you shouldn’t feel anything.
Most treatments can be an average of 6-15 minutes. However there is prep time and some time at the end to assess how you feel. You should plan for the appointment to be 30 minutes long. We pride ourselves on respecting your time and always do our best to stay on schedule. In turn, we ask that all patients do their best to be on time for their appointments.
Temporary reactivity of the nervous system can occur in the first 24-48 hours following treatment. While this does not occur in all patients, and oftentimes is not experienced at all, it is still very important to educate patients on.
Reactivity includes feelings of fatigue, spaciness, anxiousness, being wired, headaches, or potential (temporary) increases in condition/symptom.
Experiencing reactivity can be uncomfortable and discouraging, however, it is completely normal and will pass. It is not permanent and will not persist.
In fact, I educate patients in understanding that reactivity is actually a positive sign that your brain and nervous system are beginning to respond. This is known as neuroregulation.
This is the brain demonstrating that “something good is happening” and that every subset of a reaction is a positive response!
Rest assured, if you do experience any unpleasant feelings between treatments, I am always available to discuss what is going on and to administer a brief gentle treatment to calm the nervous system and help bring about homeostasis.
How Can Neurofeedback Work on So Many Conditions?
All the aforementioned conditions have a common denominator: the brain is “frozen” in a dysfunctional homeostasis that leads to disregulation. IASIS Micro Current Neurofeedback device causes brief micro-stimulation to the brain that results in a temporary fluctuation in brainwaves. This temporary change allows the brain to reorganize itself.
Thus IASIS MCN does not train the brain like traditional neurofeedback, but instead “disentrains” the brain by allowing it to reorganize itself and release itself from frozen, stuck patterns. This is analogous to re-booting a frozen computer.
IASIS MCN does not heal or cure any illness, disease, or condition. It bathes the brain in energy allowing the autonomic nervous system to neuro-regulate. It has been found to work very effectively in tandem with other modalities and approaches.
Hope and Healing Family Counseling is a Christian counseling center. What does this mean? What if I am of another faith or non-religious?
As a licensed professional, I honor the personal beliefs and convictions of the clients I serve. Clients choose if and how they would like to incorporate their personal faith into counseling.
Clients who identify as a Christian and prefer not to discuss the Bible or Christian values or do not wish to include their faith in the counseling process will feel comfortable.
When clients walk in the door who self-identify as non-religious, non-spiritual, and non-Christian, they will also feel welcome and comfortable.
